5th Grade Homework Newsletter for May 6-10

·         Ameritowne shop trainings will be Tuesday & Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. Thank you again to all parents who volunteered to help train students.
·         Please sign and return the Ameritowne field trip permission slip and $23 by Wednesday, May 8.
·         The Ameritowne field trip is Monday, May 13. Please bring a completely disposable sack lunch.
·         Reading Book Reports/Cereal Box Project is due Monday, May 13. However, Mrs. Christy’s class’ projects are due Wednesday, May 15. Please see the pink packet that was sent home last week for more information.
·         Please email a picture of your child from kindergarten or younger to Mrs. Christy to include in the slideshow. Pictures are due by Friday, May 24th. Email: achristy@cherrycreekschools.org
·         The Museum of Nature and Science will be giving a puberty presentation on May 24. A permission slip will be going home in the Thursday folder. Please sign and return it by May 16.
Vocabulary: On the back of this page are words that come from our reading/writing curriculum. Study the definition. The test will be on Friday.

Word Work/Spelling: Study your spelling words for homework each night. The spelling test will be Friday. This week we will focus on words with the w or /w/ sound before the vowel.

Reading: In class, we will focus on poetry, non-fiction, and fiction. For homework, you should read/complete the fiction novel for your book report/cereal box project or a book of your choice (if you are finished) for at least 20 minutes each night. You will also need to work on the pink pre-writing packet and complete the cereal box by May 13/15. We will present our cereal boxes to the class beginning May 14/15.
Writing:  Focuses will include informative writing, figurative language and poetic devices.
Social Studies: We continue the Young Ameritowne curriculum which includes concepts in economics and government.   We will also continue with History Alive!     
Math: We will complete Everyday Math Chapter 7 and begin Chapter 10.
For homework, complete the nightly study link(s) assigned by your teacher. Make sure you are showing your parents your homework so you can review it together each night.
