Vocabulary: On the back of this page are words that come from our math and social studies units this week. Study the definition and the part of speech. The test will be on Friday.
Word Work/Spelling: Each night you will need to study your spelling words for homework. The spelling test will be Friday. This week we will focus on adding the inflections –ed and –ing to base words. We will also work on plural patterns. Be sure you know how to spell ALL forms of these words. Here are your 10 base words:
1. trip: trips, tripped, tripping
2. chase: chases, chased, chasing
3. need: needs, needed, needing
4. dress: dresses, dressed, dressing
5. dry: dries, dried, drying
6. tan: taxes, taxed, taxing
7. fan: fans, fanned, fanning
8. race: races, raced, racing
9. say: says, said, saying
10. fly: flies, flew, flying
Reading: You should read a book of your choice for at least 20 minutes each night. Short, leveled readers may be sent home for fluency and comprehension practice. In class, we will focus on non-fiction and problem/solution as we read The Spirit of Endurance on p. 519 in the Treasure’s book. Comprehension questions will be due Thursday and a test will be given on Friday.
Writing: In class, we will begin drafting our personal narratives.
Science: In class, we will continue our FOSS units of study in physical, earth, or life sciences. For homework, complete worksheet 51-52 to review natural resources. This worksheet is due Friday.
Social Studies: In class, we will begin Unit 5 in the History Alive textbook, which focuses on the European Explorers who claimed land in the New World for Europe. For homework, complete worksheet 76-77 to practice reading route maps. This worksheet is due Friday.
Math: In Unit 4 this week, we will add and subtract fractions. Math homework each night will reinforce concepts from class.
